Privacy Policy
Summary
Berean is designed as a private Bible study app. The app does not ask for contacts, location, camera, microphone, or social graph access.
Information stored on your device
Reader position, highlights, memorization progress, onboarding answers, and profile preferences are stored locally on your device.
Deleting local study data
You can clear highlights, memorization progress, Study Companion history, and reader position from the Privacy section inside the Berean app. This does not cancel or change your Apple subscription.
Exporting local study data
You can export highlights, memory verses, and Path progress from the You tab. The export is generated locally from study data on your device.
Study Companion requests
When you ask the Study Companion a question, the question is sent to Berean's backend so the app can retrieve relevant Scripture, public-domain doctrine, historic commentary, Bible dictionary entries, topical indexes, Strong's Greek and Hebrew Dictionary entries, and attributed OpenBible cross-references, then generate an answer. Berean application code does not store raw Companion questions, raw Source Search queries, or generated answers after the request is served. Do not include sensitive personal information in Companion questions.
Abuse protection
Berean uses short-lived, hashed rate-limit keys to protect paid AI features from abuse. The raw client address is not written to Berean's application data stores. Paid Companion and Source Search requests also include an Apple-signed StoreKit transaction so the backend can verify active membership before serving paid AI features; Berean application code does not retain that transaction proof after the request finishes.
Payments
Subscriptions are handled by Apple through StoreKit. Berean does not receive or store your full payment card details.
Tracking and sale of data
Berean does not sell user data and does not include third-party advertising trackers in the app.
